Any Plans For The Year?
Here in the UK we are just getting our domestic season underway, and my first meeting will be the Aston Martin Owners Club at Silverstone on April 5th. followed by the VSCC Spring Start the next weekend, and the World Endurance Championship the next weekend. So a busy April for me, have you guys anything planned?
Any chance that any Damned will be at any of theses meetings? I'll buy the teas if we meet up.
Cheers,
Blunder Boy 1

Noticed there is a new member in our midst - Welcome, Beyonder.
We may have met years ago? Not sure of your surname, but I seem to recall someone once saying "He is Beyonder Joke"

Anyone know who Beyonder or DavidHack are, and how they ended up on here?

I thought that you were 'Beyonder' Greg, if not I've no idea, but feel that we don't want weirdoes (well ANYMORE) on site, so I will scrub him/her as a member.
David is a fellow member of the Damned and TNF poster, who prefers a quiet life, but is very welcome here, and we look forward to his first venture in to the Damned & Dangerous world of Kindred Spirits.

Bob,
Perhaps there is some sort of admin setting where a prospective member has to apply and be "admitted"? Not always east to find these things, depending on the forum software.
Oulton Park on Saturday!

I was thinking about that only this morning Pete, I do feel it is important to keep the forum, how shall I put it? Select, say rather than exclusive? Should any member want to introduce friends that would be fine, but as stated previously there are certain 'types' we can do without, so some control over registrations would be sensible. I will look into it, luckily we got in ahead of any censorship as....
'I wouldn't want to join any form that would have me as a member.'
Enjoy Oulton, and I look forward to seeing some of your efforts. I could go to Silverstone but as it is an MGCC meeting that appears to consist of nothing but MG's, I'll wait until next weekend and grace the AMOC with my presence. Much more variety there.
Cheers,
Bob.
Re: Any Plans For The Year?
I could never get the multi-e-mail thingie to work so I'm glad to have a forum that matches my IT capabilities. I've made a first modest contribution on the "influences" thread. Bit worried about the "no weirdos" rule - what are we all doing here then? Has Beyonder posted anything yet? If yes, is it of any interest? If not, why not wait until he/she/it does and then judge whether the black ball is called for?damned1 wrote:Greg Mackie wrote:Anyone know who Beyonder or DavidHack are, and how they ended up on here?

That makes sense, David. Let's hope Admin. can see his way clear [with that silly hat on] to take the appropriate action, when required.

Re: Any Plans For The Year?
Plans for the year, not that many actually, make it none, zilch. I think I won't be attending anything, perhaps the film show once or twice. Young family, you see.
But I have loads of out-of-print or hard-to-find books to read, just today I got all together Borgeson's Alfa Romeo Tradition, Nixon's Auto Union Album and Ludvigsen's Mercedes Benz Racing History. Not bad.

In order to remain, not so much exclusive as 'unsullied', I feel we need to monitor closely any prospective members. Beyonder claimed to be a17 year old seeking the post of moderator on the Forum!!!
When I found out who is behind this scam then I will report them to a moderator .... Oh! Of course we don't have any, I may have to out source the job to Twinny.
You have been warned

For those who do not know the Eurosport web site, take a look and note two items of interest, 1) The 10 best paid drivers of 2013, and (2 The ten most successful drivers.
Staggering amounts being paid to drive a Formula 1 racing car, and quite a difference between the top and bottom drivers. The 10 most successful is just statistics, but interesting anyway.
Bob.

Re: Any Plans For The Year?
Classic Media Day at Silverstone next Wednesday, anyone going to be there? Usually lot's of cars and drivers mingling with a sprinkling of 'celebrities'. (I don't include my self in that category), free lunch (?), and photo opportunities galore.
Just hope the weather co-operates and the sun makes an appearance.

Re: Any Plans For The Year?
I'm having an unusually busy motorsport year at the moment. I don't know why - I thought I'd virtually given up going to events.
In the last year or so I've been to the 2013 Oz Gp, 2013 Malaysian GP, 2013 Indy 500, Walter Hayes Trophy, 2014 Paris Retro Classic, Stoneleigh Classic, VSCC Silverstone.
On Sunday, I've arranged to go to Brands Hatch meet an old FF1600 (&F3) rival from 30 years ago when we were racing sur le Continong. He was Dutch Champion & is spending a few days campervanning with his sons in England. We'll be taking a look at the current excuse for Formula Ford racing.
Next month I'll be at Indy as usual for a long weekend. The itinerary is:-
Arrive Indy Friday night.
Saturday night - Go to the 'Little 500' at Anderson In. - 33 sprint cars doing day/night 500 laps of a 1/2 mile paved oval. Crazy!
Sunday afternoon - Indy 500 - better racing these days with the 'blocky' cars.
Sunday evening - Up to Kokomo In. to watch sprint cars on a 1/2 mile dirt oval.
Monday - a little Memorial Day shopping for Hersheys, corndogs & other disgusting stuff.
Monday evening - Down to Lawrenceberg In. to watch World of Outlaws (winged) sprintcars on a 1/3 mile dirt oval, getting dust, dirt, stones & rubber in places even sand doesn't get to..
Tuesday morning - fly out
Tuesday evening - arrive Heathrow, knackered & overdosed with American racing.
Fantastic!
I do it every year!
So sorry Bob, you'll understand if I give Wednesday a miss next week. But do enjoy it & give us a report!

Grand Prix
I will be at Silverstone for the Grand Prix again this year although with having turned 77 on Friday, I do find three days dragging around the Media Centre and Paddock quite tiring. It sounds glamorous but it is rather boring most of the time.
It is difficult to see much of the race live as the media room used muted TV screens so you don't hear a commentary or even hear the cars outside. Still strolling around the motor homes and seeing the 'celebrities' helps pass the time, before battling with enormous traffic queues to get home.
I don't recommend it.
Now the Bentley Drivers Club meeting in August is a proper event.
Damned if I know why I do it.

Typo! It was yesterday so your congratulations were well timed Mr P. I look forward to the celebratory cup of tea at the Classic.
Hope you are well.
Cheers,
Old 77.

Ah sorry - I won't be at the Classic this year. I'll be relaxing in the Isles of Scilly instead

Re: Any Plans For The Year?
Greetings Everybody!
Looks like I'm the first to post here for a while. I suppose that's because you are all too busy enjoying yourselves!
How was your british GP, Bob? Did you get any autographs?
Any plans for the year? - well, not planned but a nice turn up - From next week I'll be working in The Ferrari F1 design office until the end of the year & maybe a couple of months more. They've taken me on contract, to work in the steering/suspension & other groups. I hope I can survive there...
Of course it's somewhere I've always wanted to work plus the chance see some of Italy, a place I've neglected over the years.
After the contract finishes, I plan to drive a lap of Italy & nip across to Sicily to drive the old Mille Miglia circuit.
More later, if you're interested.
