Forum Problems
As I am still unable to log-in as 'admin', I thought I would try and explain the recent shenanigans effecting the site.
The problem started when I tried to sign in as 'admin', but found my password was rejected, there was no discernible reason for this, nothing had changed as far as I was aware. There is a good help desk facility and I have had a continuing conversation with the people there, and they suggested doing a 'forum restore' going back to the original version, and then logging in using my password. This is why you saw various changes to member list, and missing messages etc., which was all a waste of time as I still remained locked out. The constant variation in content has been caused by me trying various 'restore' dates, not because of any 'hacking' by beyonder or anyone else.
After several cries for help I received an e-mail with a new temporary password which enabled me to log in again, so I changed the temp for one of my own and found I could get into the admin section, however, next time I tried the same problem occurred. Very frustrating. The situation at present is that I have restored the forum to 30/03/2014, and have requested another new password, which I hope and pray will solve the problem. Funnily enough, with new member applications because I have it set up that it needs admin authority to activate the account, I receive an e-mail fro the site suppliers advising me that there is an application awaiting authorisation, and all I have to do is click on a link, and it's done. So I am still recognised as the administrator, but not able to get on site on my own.
Hopefully this will soon be resolved, but at least the forum can be accessed and is unaffected, so carry on posting.
Many thanks for your impatience,
Kind regards,
That Damned Bob.

Re: Forum Problems
Looks as though it has 'settled down', Bob. How did you manage to fix it? Did you need to get help from Twinny?
Re: Forum Problems
So Bob, was the forum hacked in the first place, or what was it?

No reason to think so Regs, the 'restore' operations would have yielded the inconsistencies.
Your secrets are safe with us.

Googling Bots. is a pastime of us older men, especially those of nubile young Sheilas.
I have no other explanation. Just because I started this whole farrago of historic nonsense does not mean I am a computer whizz kid. Far from it I just go with the flo (if she's available, of course).
Now stop asking stupid questions, they only show up my lack of savvy on IT.
With the kindest possible regards, I remain your faithful servant,
Bauble, Damned1, Bob, Admin. et al.
Re: Forum Problems
Bob, after noticing "Bots" as "Users online", I 'Googled' Bots....and found this:-

Re: Forum Problems
Have you noticed the 'views' figure shown on the forum page for each thread?
Far more than we could possibly have generated alone.
Also we have had 13 people on line at one time, and there are not 13 of us!
It would appear that 'guests' have discovered our secret and are looking in.
Perhaps we should be circumspect in any opinions expressed, you never know who might take offence.

Greg Mackie wrote:Anyone know what a 'Google Bot' is...and why it keeps appearing on this forum?
I will make enquiries of the software provider, and let you know, although the item you googled appears to explain it. Google crawling through our maunderings for interesting pieces to add to their collection.
B***** Cheek!
